Review: Rock out with Off Road Indoor Cycling

DC is billed as the most powerful city in the world and we act like it- going 110% in all we do: politics, work, happy hours, and working out.

From the moment you walk up to Off Road Indoor Cycling you know it's on. They were written up immediately after opening by Prince of Petworth for awesome signage, and they offset the main modern sign with a chalk board "specials" board that immediately makes you feel like you're going into the coolest hippest bar in town. Happy

Walking in, you're greeted by a clean space and a friendly check-in counter. Water and coconut water is available for purchase, towels for free, and cubbies for your stuff.

The bikes are upstairs and you immediately go up the dimly lit staircase surrounded by brick walls and round the corner and into the party!

The large room is dimly lit with spotlight lighting, hardwood floors, and huge windows that give a club like feel- you're not here to work-up a sweat in any boring windowless gym- you're here to rock out and PARTY! I'm greeted by a huge screen with Beyonce singing, stereo blasting and a completely non-pretencious instructor in a sweatshirt (no high-end cycling outfit to intimidate you). I can't help but get excited!

It has been years since I took a bike class, and distance running works completely different muscles- I'm not going to pretend my excitement was mixed with a bit of fear. But once the music started and the instructor (Bridget) got her microphone on- all that I can think about is sweating to the music, partying it out, and kicking some serious butt!

The music shift was perfect- up and down, top 40s hits from the 90s to today and all of a sudden you're not on a bike- you're at a club or a bar- begging the DJ to play one more song, sweating to the music, laughing with your friends, and looking damn good doing it! Wait a minute- you're having fun at a cycling class!

The class ends way too soon and seriously (I kid you not) everyone walks out sweaty and smiling. And the best part- the next day you're sore all over!

Off Road Indoor Cycling has successfully taken away the intimidation of indoor cycling and  created an environment of sweat and awesomeness that exudes the 110% of DC. DC you finally have a cross training workout option to rival my marathon training.

Off Road has also generously offered discounts on classes to other local programs including DC Road Runners and FLEET FEET RUN FIT programs- not only do they walk the walk but they talk the talk (or in this case cycle the indoor bike).
